ISDN switch off

The UK phone network is switching off

BT's traditional ISDN and PSTN network will be fully retired by January 2027. Every business using a traditional landline will need to switch to a VoIP-based alternative. Here's what you need to know.

What's happening?

BT Openreach is retiring the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and ISDN services across the UK. This means traditional analogue phone lines, ISDN2 lines, and ISDN30 circuits will all stop working.

New ISDN lines stopped being sold in September 2023. The full switch-off is scheduled for January 2027. After that date, all voice calls in the UK will be carried over IP (internet) networks.

This affects every business with a traditional phone line — even if you have a simple single-line landline.

What should you do?

Don't wait for the deadline
Many exchanges are being switched off ahead of 2027. Moving early avoids a rush and gives you time to test your new system.
Switch to a hosted VoIP system
VoIP delivers calls over your broadband connection. It gives you everything ISDN did — plus modern features like mobile apps, call queues, and voicemail-to-email.
Keep your existing numbers
You can port your current phone numbers to our platform. Your customers won't notice any change — just better call quality.
No hardware required
If you don't want desk phones, our virtual numbers can forward calls to your mobile. You can always add desk phones later.
